日本を、自分の目で。

暖簾(noren)
The curtain is an invitation.
A noren is the curtain at the door of a Japanese shop or restaurant. Walking through it means you are inside. For visitors, that step is the hard part. Many of the best places take bookings by phone, in Japanese, or only through an introduction. Trains, transfers and connections add up. Most people either give up or settle for a list from an influencer or an AI.
Noren is how you get through.

物語(story)
Why I started Noren.
The first time I got away from the tourist center, we ended up in a local neighborhood in Osaka. We stood outside a noren for a long while. Behind it was a packed, noisy restaurant, and the whole room went quiet when we walked in. Then a woman by the door cheered, and we were welcomed in. It was the best fried chicken we have ever had.
